Hello
I'm Carmen du Toit, a technology architect who builds the tech you never notice, because it just works.

About me
I like technology best when it's quietly doing its job and nobody's calling IT.
I'm a Technology Architect Lead with 13 years in IT, looking after head office technology at Ocean Basket across South Africa and Cyprus. I design the solutions, set the direction, make the calls and work with our managed services partner to get it all delivered.
I got here the long way round: support technician, systems administrator, support engineer, senior systems administrator and project lead, technology specialist. That path means I know what a decision looks like on a whiteboard and at 7am when a restaurant can't take payments. I'm at my best when something is a little hard. Next, I'm looking for bigger puzzles to solve, where good design decisions make a real difference across a business.
I care a lot about doing things properly, but I'm allergic to complexity for its own sake. The best solution is usually the practical one, not the clever one, and the best compliment I can get is "you sweat the small stuff."
Fewer network incidents after refreshing the network, at a lower running cost.
Password reset tickets gone in six months with self-service resets.
Saved on every new laptop with zero-touch setup.

My recent work I'm proudest of. I designed and led each one, with hands-on delivery through partners.
